Known primarily as a topographical term, as an inner area lying beyond seas and rivers which is not readily visible or known, the idea of "hinterland" gained ominous meaning during the first half of the twentieth century, when the term took on a more sinistrous connotation as it was used to justify territorial expansion and aggression, particularly in the context of geopolitical conflicts.
By employing the concept, Istanbul Concepts strives to overcome those labels and add another dimension: This reimagined "hinterland" is a space for introspection and creativity, where artists can explore their identities, fears, desires, and experiences, ultimately using this reflection as a springboard for new artistic adventures. Now, we want to invite art lovers and aficionados to join this journey into the artist's personal hinterland.
